A Gross 10.1% Increase in Direct Maternal Mortality for 2022 is Reported. A Closer Examination Shows a 58% Increase in Maternal Deaths as % Share of Registered Deaths! ALARM SIGNAL RAISED!
The reporter compares "complete" 2021 Jan - June registered deaths against incomplete 2022 registered deaths to falsely conclude only a 10% Increase in Maternal Deaths!
More Filipino mums are dying during childbirth in latest data release from PSA, and as discussed in this article, which reports a 10.1% increase in 2022 compared to 2021.
A closer look at the data reveals a much more concerning picture. The data is based on PSA reported registered deaths and cause of death (COD) data from January to June 2022 (as of 31 July 2022) compared to the same period in 2021.
By now, the 2021 data on registered deaths and COD is assumed to be substantially complete. However, the 2022 registered death data is clearly very incomplete, particularly for May and with almost no data for June 2022.
Incomplete raw data cannot be compared with complete raw data and used to draw any valid conclusions. The reporter’s stated 10.1% increase in maternal births during childbirth is very misleading!
From January to June in 2021 there were 425 Maternal Deaths in the category of “1-089 Other direct obstetric deaths 010-092” which represented a 0.11% share of all registered deaths. From January to June 2022, there were 468 deaths in the same category, an additional 43 deaths in 2022, or a 10.1% of the gross reported deaths for this category. The 2022 data is incomplete! As more 2022 deaths are registered (registration can be delayed by months), with more maternal deaths added, these deaths will rise.
A far more accurate way to assess the data is to look at the deaths as % share of all total registered deaths! This will show if there is any increase in any particular category of death relative to the currently reported deaths for year to date.
Direct Maternal Obstetric deaths in 2022 contributed an 0.18% share of all registered deaths compared to contributing a 0.11% share in 2021. This is a 58% increase as share of all registered deaths!
The two other obstetric and perinatal categories included in the Cause of Death data also show very concerning trends into 2022.
1-092 Certain conditions originating in the perinatal period P00-0P96 increased from a 1.17% share in 2021 to a 1.40% share in 2022, that is a 19.6% increase!
1-093 Congenital malformations deformations and chromosomal abnormalities Q00-Q99 increased from a 0.70% share to 0.77% share, an 8.9% increase!
All of these put together indicate a devastating decline in maternal and fetal health in 2022 compared to 2021! This is an increase in deaths share across all monitored maternal / fetal health outcomes, tabulated below for easy reference.
Please note that there is still no available published data on still births for 2021 or 2022. There is also no age breakdown of deaths data released for either year.
What has caused such a devastating deterioration in maternal / fetal outcomes in 2022? Poverty? Lack of access to medical care? Or is this the advance warning of the impacts of the Covid-19 injections being given to pregnant mothers, affecting maternal and fetal outcomes?
This represents a glaring alarm signal that should be immediately and urgently examined by all health authorities!
Covid-19 infection is already approaching endemicity. Infection is typically mild! Vaccination doesn’t prevent infection or transmission, and internationally, severe cases and deaths are overwhelmingly being seen in vaccinated populations leading to the conclusion that these particular vaccines increase rather than decrease risk! There appears to be no remaining benefit to these jabs. Particularly not for our most precious mothers, women of child bearing age and plans, or children!
I suggest that the recommendation for Covid-19 Vaccination of all pregnant women and all women of childbearing age should immediately be halted pending thorough investigation and evaluation of all data.
