Philippines Popcom Says 2020 and 2021 Low Birthrates and Lowered Population Growth are Demographic Transition.

"Demographic transition" is a population shift from high to low birthrates and high to low death rates. We have soaring deaths and plummeting births!

A demographic transition is a population shift in response to improving wealth, and improving health care and resources access, where birth and death rates both drop.

Popcom latest public whitewashing attempts to pass the drop in population growth from the last normal 1.5 million in 2019, to 900,000 in 2020 (40% drop vs 2019), and 400,000 in 2021 (73% drop vs 2019) as a simple demographic shift!

They forgot that demographic shift is a move towards both falling birth rates and falling death rates! There is nothing normal about the ongoing population growth drop.

Yes, there has been aggressive family planning, which can help to explain 2020; births dropped in 2020 before covid-19 could explain or be blamed. But such a massive change in births in just 2 years? Prior changes were low single digit percentages. The same goes for deaths.

Population growth is Births - Deaths with minor contributions from immigration and emigration. Actual death and birth figures below:-

2019 had a population increase of 1,053,509 (not 1.5 M) with 1,673,923 births and 620,414 deaths (last normal).

2020 had a population increase of 914,748 with 1,528,684 births and 613,936 deaths (no excess deaths). A reduction of 138,761 births compared to 2019.

2021 had a population increase of 456,527 with 1,309,601 births and 853,074 deaths (massive excess deaths and further dropping births, data still incomplete and only updated as of 28 February 2022). A reduction of 596,982, 4.3 times more than the loss in 2020, compared to 2019.

2022 = Possible (probable) Negative population growth!!!

Contributing factors will be increased poverty, lack of confidence in the future, massively reduced fertility and live births, and the devastating health and longevity consequences of the current population intervention.

I have started seeing a new term to explain unexpected deaths in young people “SADS” (sudden adult death syndrome); deaths no longer even dignified by attempting to assign cause!!

Maybe instead of reassuring that the current abnormal is normal Popcom should be raise the alarm that there is nothing NORMAL about the current trends.
